Montessori Early Childhood Overview Course

Course Description:

The course provides a general overview of the Montessori Early Childhood course curriculum for those who wish to gain an initial understanding of how to create an early childhood classroom environment that meets developmentally appropriate practices and supports the developing needs of children. Course participants will learn the following:

 

  • Foundational principles of early childhood education

  • Designing a vibrant nurturing classroom environment

  • Creating and delivering developmentally appropriate lesson plans

  • Role modeling positive social interactions with grace and courtesy lessons

  • Community building techniques

  • Fostering functional independence necessary for higher cognitive learning

  • Supporting the development of fine and gross motor skills

  • Sharpening and refining sensory skills in children

  • Providing a language-rich environment for early language development

  • Introducing mathematical principles through concrete exploration with manipulative materials

  • Nurturing a love of learning in working independently and collaboratively with others

 

 

This course includes curriculum components of the Montessori method of education that relates to areas of the Early Childhood classroom. The curriculum areas include developing Practical Life skills that promote functional independence, Sensorial materials that refine sensory skills, Language materials and Math materials for early childhood development. 

16 hours Certificate of Completion will be awarded to participants

Adult learners will receive 16 hours of training. These credits may be used within 5 years, should you enroll and successfully complete the full Infant/Toddler AMS Early Childhood Certification program at MMI. The full credit for MITE-OV 6.1.5.0. Early Childhood Overview Course towards the Infant/Toddler AMS certification will be awarded upon completion of the remaining 8 hours and accompanying classwork.

Montessori Philosophy and the Prepared Environment

Course Description:

This workshop is aimed towards educating Montessori Teacher Assistants and those

that are familiar with the Montessori Classroom environment

As we go through the classroom’s daily schedule and the role of the assistant teacher

throughout the day, emphasis is placed on how the role relates to Maria Montessori’s

philosophy.

By touching on the Sensitive Period of the children in this age group, the assistant

teacher will understand that they are consistently modeling Care of Self and Care of the

Environment.

The Human Tendencies are also briefly introduces so that the assistant teachers will

have a basic understand of the behavior of the children as they adjust to their new

environment.
